Reconciliation Glossary
Unmatched Transaction

Definition: Also known as a break, an unmatched transaction is a specific line item or entry that exists in one dataset but can’t be paired with a corresponding entry in the other. This occurs when there is a difference in key data fields such as trade date, quantity, or price, or when a transaction is completely missing from one of the records.

Example: During a daily cash review, the internal system shows an outgoing wire for a subscription fee, but that transaction does not appear on the bank’s activity report. This unmatched transaction remains “open” in the system, alerting the operations team to investigate whether the payment failed or if it was simply processed on a different business day.

Explore the IVP Reconciliation Solution

The IVP Reconciliation Solution excels at isolating unmatched transactions and categorizing them by risk profile and potential impact. As part of our integrated model, IVP’s team performs the initial triage of these items, researching the root cause and attaching supporting documentation. This joint effort ensures unmatched transactions are not just flagged but actively moved to resolution, preventing them from becoming “aged” and complicating reporting.
