NAV Glossary
Trade Capture

Definition: The post-execution process of recording the details of a trade (price, quantity, instrument, counterparty) in a front-office trading system or database to serve as the official, initial record of a trade for the purposes of risk management, P&L calculation, and downstream processing.

Example: An example of trade capture is a trader recording an order to buy 10,000 shares of Google at a specific price in the trade blotter, which updates the firm’s position, risk, and P&L accordingly.
