Reconciliation Glossary
Financial Close

Definition: The period-end process in which a buy-side firm finalizes financial records to produce accurate financial statements. This involves reconciling all accounts, adjusting for accruals, and ensuring every transaction for the period is captured and verified against external sources.

Example: During the month-end financial close, a private equity firm’s finance team must reconcile all management fees, fund expenses, and capital calls. Only after these accounts are tied out and verified against the custodian and bank records can the firm officially “close the books” and issue the monthly performance report.
