Shadow Accounting Glossary
NAV (Net Asset Value)

Definition: The value of a fund’s assets minus its liabilities, typically expressed on a per-share basis. NAV represents the value of each investor’s share in the fund and is usually calculated periodically by fund administrators.

Example: A fund with $115.1 million in total assets and $20.02 million in total liabilities would have a total NAV of $95.08 million. The per-share NAV is calculated by dividing this amount by the total number of shares outstanding.
